Alex Lawther “James” in The End of the F***ing World tells a darkly comic road trip tale about two confused teen outsiders. James is 17 and is pretty sure he is a psychopath. Alyssa, also 17, is the cool and moody new girl at school who James is pretty sure he wants to murder. The pair make a connection and she persuades him to embark on a road trip in search of her real father, while James struggles with finding just the right way to kill his new friend.
It all started when he was 9 and put his hand in a fryer. As a result he suffered from tenth degree burning wounds. All for the reason that he wanted to “feel” something. School is beneath him and saw it as a good place for observation and selection for his life goal. Because James wanted to kill a person in life. It all changed until he met Alyssa with an even darker personality. Most noteworthy is Alyssa falling in love with James whiles he can only thing of killing Alyssa.
Things change and James invites Alyssa to his elderly home. His father embraces Alyssa with open arms because of the wrong reasons. The two adventures plan a way out of there mediocre lives with all consequences attached. Still in doubt if he is going to kill Alyssa the two embark on a road trip with a stolen car. It seems like James is the crazy one, but once on a date you can feel Alyssa is even worse. Probably because she is more outspoken and has no brakes on her emotions. The couple tries to find their way by enjoying their company and above all, their dark twisted humor.
